His landscapes and cityscapes have a simple and stark beauty reminiscent of Japanese scrolls, and in Russian art he aspires to be a successor of such large figures in twentieth-century art as Boris Ermolaev, Anatolii Kaplan, and Iurii Vasnetsov.
